About Hereworth School

Hereworth School is a co-educational primary school that has operated with small class sizes as a defining feature for close to a century. The school covers Years 1 to 8 and accepts both boys and girls, with girls having been admitted from at least 2023.

Several curriculum approaches distinguish the school's programme. Structured Literacy is taught across all year groups from Years 0 to 8, extending beyond the New Zealand Government's requirement, which applies only to Years 0 to 3 from 2025. Maths classes are streamed by ability from Year 6, and specialist teachers deliver writing lessons at Years 7 and 8. The school also provides a Learning Support programme for students who require additional assistance.

Curriculum

Hereworth School follows a broad curriculum underpinned by the New Zealand Curriculum. • Hereworth Sports Centre — a multi-sport indoor facility with four cricket lanes and two tennis courts, also used for basketball, netball, and hockey
