About Liberton Christian School

Liberton Christian School is a Christian primary school serving Dunedin's Christian community. Its stated mission is to provide primary education within a distinctively Christian framework, with an emphasis on family involvement.

The school operates small, multilevel classes and describes parent participation as a core part of its environment. Its curriculum includes a specialised visual arts programme, a school band, and an annual school production involving all students. Swimming lessons are held at Moana Pool during terms two and three, and the school participates in interschool competitions across sports including netball, basketball, rippa rugby, soccer, cross-country, and athletics.

The school accepts a small number of new enrolments at the Year 7 and 8 level each year. Senior students receive specialist technology education at Dunedin North Intermediate on a weekly basis, participate in at least one second language module per year, and attend the annual National Young Leaders Conference. Inquiry-based learning and ICT tools are described as central to the senior programme.

Student ethnicity

The Ministry publishes this as a raw table — here it's visualised directly against Liberton Christian School's own roll, so the shape of it is clear at a glance.

Enrolment

Liberton Christian School operates under an enrolment scheme. Its geographic home zone covers the Dunedin City boundaries. Applications for the 2027 intake are due by 1 August 2026; applications for the current year are also accepted. Application packs are available from the school office.

Each year the Board of Proprietors (BOP) invites applications by a date published in a Dunedin City newspaper. Once received, applications are checked for completeness and considered at the Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting following the closing date. The number of places available at each year level is determined by the Principal at the time of enrolment.

Where applications exceed available places, the enrolment scheme applies the following order of priority:

  • First priority: preference students living within the home zone. If demand exceeds places within this group, preference is given in order to: siblings of past or present students; children of former students; children of past or present BOT, BOP, or staff members; children transferring from schools of similar special character.
  • Second priority: preference applicants living outside the home zone.
  • Third priority: non-preference applicants living inside the home zone, up to the 5% maximum permitted under the school's Integration Agreement.

Unsuccessful applicants are placed on a waiting list within their priority category. Parents are informed of outcomes within a fortnight of the BOP preference assessment meeting.
