About Menzies College
Menzies College is a co-educational state secondary school located in Wyndham, Southland, approximately 30 minutes' drive from Invercargill. Wyndham is a small rural town, and the school operates with a small roll.
The school follows a behaviour and values framework called PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning), organised around three stated values: feeling safe, striving for excellence, and showing respect. These sit within a broader school ethos referred to as "The Menzies Way", described as having been in place for decades and centred on integrity.

School donations
The Ministry of Education profile states that: "Donations should not be requested, unless for a school camp".
With an Equity Index of 477, Menzies College is in the range eligible to opt into the Ministry's donations scheme — receiving additional government funding per student in exchange for not seeking donations (except for overnight camps).
Check directly with the school for current charges, contributions or other costs. Learn more on the donations scheme or fees and charges at school, both on education.govt.nz.
Equity Index
The Ministry publishes this figure as a bare number — KuraData shows it against the directory-wide average, so you can see where Menzies College actually sits, not just the number on its own.
The Equity Index estimates the socio-economic barriers students face, on average, and is used to inform government funding and support. It is not a measure of school quality or academic performance.
Higher values indicate a higher level of estimated socio-economic barriers; lower values indicate fewer. Learn how the Equity Index is calculated →
Student ethnicity
The Ministry publishes this as a raw table — here it's visualised directly against Menzies College's own roll, so the shape of it is clear at a glance.
- European — 262 students (75.5%)
- Asian — 43 students (12.4%)
- Pacific — 6 students (1.7%)
- Māori — 82 students (23.6%)
- MELAA — 1 students (0.3%)
- Other — 1 students (0.3%)
Percentages may sum to more than 100% because students can identify with more than one ethnic group.

Student Support and Pastoral Care
Menzies College organises pastoral care through a house and whānau group system. The school has four Houses — Rata, Rimu, Matai, and Totara — each overseen by an appointed Head of House.
Each House is divided into three whānau groups arranged vertically across Year 7 to Year 13, meaning each group contains students from multiple year levels. Whānau teachers remain with the same students as they progress through the school, providing continuity of pastoral relationships over time.
Each House also has senior student leaders: a House Leader and one or two Deputy House Leaders.
