About Raumati Beach School

Raumati Beach School is a primary school located in the beachside community of Raumati on the Kāpiti Coast. The school has a roll of over 600 students.

The school's stated motto is Kei te Ako Tahi Tatou Mo Āpōpō — rendered in English as "learn together for tomorrow" — which reflects an emphasis on community relationships, including engagement with students' whānau.

School donations

The Ministry of Education profile states that: "Donations may be requested".

With an Equity Index of 423, Raumati Beach School is below the 432 threshold newly required to opt into the donations scheme, though a school already receiving this funding from an earlier year may continue to do so. Outside the scheme, a school can still ask families for donations, but cannot compel or enforce payment.

Check directly with the school for current charges, contributions or other costs. Learn more on the donations scheme or fees and charges at school, both on education.govt.nz.

Enrolment

Raumati Beach School operates an Enrolment Scheme. Students living within the school's home zone have a legislated right to enrol. The zone boundaries are defined as follows:

  • Northern boundary: southern side of Toru Road, down to No. 38A Toru Road (inclusive)
  • Western boundary: corner of the southern side of Toru Road and Marine Parade, down to the northern side of Berts Way
  • Southern boundary: northern side of Bert's Way to the northern side of Menin Road, along to the northern side of Harry Shaw Way
  • Eastern boundary: 190 Main Road (old SH1) up to the southern side of Ihakara Street and Main Road (old SH1)

Each year the Board determines how many places will be available for out-of-zone applicants in the following year, publishing this by notice in a community newspaper. If applications exceed available places, a ballot is held.

To enrol, parents must visit the School Office to complete an Enrolment Form. A New Zealand Birth Certificate is required for all enrolments. Children born overseas must provide a passport or other proof of residency status. Children who are not New Zealand citizens or do not hold appropriate residency entitlement may only enrol as international students with a valid student visa.

For new entrant enrolments, an Immunisation Certificate is also required. Parents are advised to contact the School Office well before their child's fifth birthday to arrange pre-start classroom visits and an information meeting with the Reception Room Teacher.

Curriculum

Raumati Beach School organises its curriculum around a constructivist learning model, in which students build knowledge through a four-stage inquiry process: Curious, Capture, Develop, Create. Learners move from an initial question or moment of wondering, through gathering and sorting information, to producing a response such as an exhibition, presentation, or letter.

The school describes curiosity — wondering, questioning, and reflecting — as central to its curriculum approach. Reporting to parents is described as individual and tied to student learning progress, with information also available through a parent handbook covering syndicates and curriculum explanations.

Student Support Services

Raumati Beach School has a Team Learning Support, coordinated by a Learning Support Coordinator, which responds to the varied needs of students.
