School donations
The Ministry of Education profile states that: "Donations should not be requested, unless for a school camp".
Check directly with the school for current charges, contributions or other costs. Learn more on the donations scheme or fees and charges at school, both on education.govt.nz.
Equity Index
The Ministry publishes this figure as a bare number — KuraData shows it against the directory-wide average, so you can see where St Joseph's School (Dannevirke) actually sits, not just the number on its own.
The Equity Index estimates the socio-economic barriers students face, on average, and is used to inform government funding and support. It is not a measure of school quality or academic performance.
Higher values indicate a higher level of estimated socio-economic barriers; lower values indicate fewer. Learn how the Equity Index is calculated →

Enrolment
St Joseph's School (Dannevirke) is a Catholic state integrated school, and enrolments can be made at any time during the school year. Parents and caregivers are welcome to visit the school by appointment, arranged through the school office. Enrolment information is available in hard copy from the office.
As an integrated school, enrolment is divided into preference and non-preference places. Preference places are allocated to students with a Catholic connection, assessed by the proprietor's authorised agent, Marie Streeter. The criteria for preference status are:
- The child has been baptised or is being prepared for baptism in the Catholic Church.
- One or more of the child's siblings have already been baptised in the Catholic faith.
- At least one parent or guardian is Catholic and the child's participation may lead to baptism.
- A significant familial adult (such as a grandparent, aunt, or uncle) who is actively involved in the child's upbringing undertakes to support the child's formation in the Catholic faith, with parental agreement.
- One or both non-Catholic parents or guardians are preparing to become Catholic.
The school has a maximum of 8 non-preference places. Non-preference applicants must accept that Attendance Dues, set by the Diocese of Palmerston North, are compulsory, and that enrolment is conditional on participation in the Catholic special character programme. Priority for non-preference places is given in the following order:
- Siblings of non-preference students already enrolled.
- Children of staff members.
- Non-preference students transferring from another integrated school with the same special character.
- Children living within one kilometre of the school who wish to participate in the special character programme.
Non-preference applicants who cannot be immediately enrolled may be placed on a waiting list, ordered by date. Students who enrol at another school are removed from the waiting list.
