• Certificate in Foundation Studies — an 8-month programme (two trimesters) covering English language, academic skills, and subject-specific courses in one of four streams: Arts, Business, Science/Engineering, or a combined Business/elective stream. Students take 8 courses in total, selected according to their intended UC degree. Intakes are in February, June, and October. Indicative tuition fees are NZD$27,470 per programme.
• Diploma in University Studies — available in Commerce, Engineering, and Science.
• Pre-Master's Programmes — available as one or two semesters.
• Study Abroad Certificate

Students typically attend 4 to 6 hours of class per unit each week. Most students take 3–4 units per trimester, giving a weekly class commitment of 12–24 hours, alongside independent self-study. Class sizes are small, and students have access to academic advisers, workshops, one-on-one tuition, and study skills classes. UCIC students also have access to University of Canterbury facilities, including the library, sports amenities, the Canterbury Career Service, and clubs and associations.

Students who complete all 8 required Diploma in University Studies units and achieve the required weighted average mean (WAM) for their chosen degree are guaranteed entry to a University of Canterbury degree programme.
