About Frasertown School
Te Pito o Te Kapu - Frasertown School is a rural primary school located in Frasertown that has operated for over 150 years. It serves approximately 100–120 students in small classes, with a student body described as predominantly Māori and European alongside other cultures.
The school's name — Te Pito o Te Kapu, meaning "centre" — reflects its role as a focal point of the local community. Its three stated strategic goals are Excellence, Equity, and Environment.
Te Ao Māori is central to the school's curriculum, with Te Reo Māori integrated into daily practice and an explicit commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Programmes operating at the school include Te Ara Whakamana, PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning), and Kaupapa Māori Curriculum (KC) play.
School donations
The Ministry of Education profile states that: "Donations should not be requested, unless for a school camp".
With an Equity Index of 479, Frasertown School is in the range eligible to opt into the Ministry's donations scheme — receiving additional government funding per student in exchange for not seeking donations (except for overnight camps).

Equity Index
The Ministry publishes this figure as a bare number — KuraData shows it against the directory-wide average, so you can see where Frasertown School actually sits, not just the number on its own.
The Equity Index estimates the socio-economic barriers students face, on average, and is used to inform government funding and support. It is not a measure of school quality or academic performance.
Higher values indicate a higher level of estimated socio-economic barriers; lower values indicate fewer. Learn how the Equity Index is calculated →
Student ethnicity
The Ministry publishes this as a raw table — here it's visualised directly against Frasertown School's own roll, so the shape of it is clear at a glance.
- European — 51 students (45.1%)
- Asian — 1 students (0.9%)
- Pacific — 1 students (0.9%)
- Māori — 74 students (65.5%)
- MELAA — 1 students (0.9%)
Percentages may sum to more than 100% because students can identify with more than one ethnic group.

New entrant students are offered two school visits, held on the two Fridays before their official start date.
