About Pinehaven School
Pinehaven School is a New Zealand primary school whose stated vision centres on nurturing future leaders — expressed in te reo Māori as he manukura mō āpōpō. The school's planning and learning experiences are guided by its LEAF principles, a set of values developed through consultation with students, teachers, and the wider community in 2023.
School donations
The Ministry of Education profile states that: "Donations may be requested".
With an Equity Index of 398, Pinehaven School is below the 432 threshold newly required to opt into the donations scheme, though a school already receiving this funding from an earlier year may continue to do so. Outside the scheme, a school can still ask families for donations, but cannot compel or enforce payment.
Check directly with the school for current charges, contributions or other costs. Learn more on the donations scheme or fees and charges at school, both on education.govt.nz.
Equity Index
The Ministry publishes this figure as a bare number — KuraData shows it against the directory-wide average, so you can see where Pinehaven School actually sits, not just the number on its own.
The Equity Index estimates the socio-economic barriers students face, on average, and is used to inform government funding and support. It is not a measure of school quality or academic performance.
Higher values indicate a higher level of estimated socio-economic barriers; lower values indicate fewer. Learn how the Equity Index is calculated →
Student ethnicity
The Ministry publishes this as a raw table — here it's visualised directly against Pinehaven School's own roll, so the shape of it is clear at a glance.
- European — 173 students (87.4%)
- Asian — 18 students (9.1%)
- Pacific — 9 students (4.5%)
- Māori — 20 students (10.1%)
- MELAA — 6 students (3%)
- Other — 3 students (1.5%)
Percentages may sum to more than 100% because students can identify with more than one ethnic group.

Enrolment
Pinehaven School operates a home zone. Families within the home zone who wish to enrol can contact the school office by phone (528 4365) or email (office@pinehaven.school.nz) to arrange an appointment with Principal Phillipa Whiteman.
Twice a year the Board assesses whether capacity exists to accept out-of-zone enrolments for new entrant children. The number of places available depends on in-zone enrolment numbers. Siblings of current out-of-zone students must submit an application form to be considered in this process.
Out-of-zone priority order follows the Education and Training Act 2020. If applications exceed available places, a ballot is held under that Act. All applicants are notified of the ballot outcome within 5 school days of the ballot taking place.
