About St Patrick's School (Masterton)

St Patrick's School is a state-integrated, co-educational primary school in Masterton, New Zealand, catering for students from New Entrants to Year 6. The school operates with a special Catholic character and is affiliated with the Catholic Parish of the Wairarapa and the local St Patrick's church community.

The parish of St Patrick established the first school on the site in 1883. The Brigidine Sisters, who arrived from Ireland in 1898, led the school at its original location opposite the parish church. The school moved to its present site in 1978, which had previously been St Brides Girls' College. The Brigidine Sisters continued teaching at the school until 1995, and the last religious sister serving as Principal retired in 1986.

The school's motto, Strength & Kindness, originates with the Brigidine Sisters and derives from the motto of Bishop Delaney, who co-founded the Brigidine congregation in 1807. The school's three stated values — Strength / Kaha, Kindness / Atawhai, and Excellence / Kairangi — are reflected in the school uniform, which carries the initials SKE.

A section of the original school building was relocated to the entrance of the current school grounds in 2013 to preserve part of the school's physical history.
