About Wellington S D A School
Wellington Seventh-day Adventist School is a co-educational, state-integrated Christian school in Wellington, catering for students from Years 1 to 8. It is owned by the New Zealand Seventh-day Adventist Schools Association Limited, which acts as the school's proprietor, and is funded by the government. The Board of Trustees administers the school and meets twice each term.
The school's special character is explicitly Christian, grounded in the values and teachings of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Worship is described as a core component of daily school life, with dedicated time for learning about God and the Bible. The school does not require mandatory church attendance from students or their families.
Wellington Seventh-day Adventist School is a member of Adventist Education New Zealand, which operates 16 schools across New Zealand serving more than 2,300 students. It is also a member of the Association of Integrated Schools (AIS) and the New Zealand Association of Christian Schools (NZACS).
The school has five class groups, with class sizes ranging from 12 to 30 students. The five classes are:
- Ruma Pīwakawaka Iti — Years 0–1
- Ruma Pīwakawaka Nui — Years 1–2
- Ruma Pūkeko — Years 3–4
- Ruma Tūī — Years 5–6
- Ruma Kererū — Years 7–8
School donations
The Ministry of Education profile states that: "Donations should not be requested, unless for a school camp".
Check directly with the school for current charges, contributions or other costs. Learn more on the donations scheme or fees and charges at school, both on education.govt.nz.
Equity Index
The Ministry publishes this figure as a bare number — KuraData shows it against the directory-wide average, so you can see where Wellington S D A School actually sits, not just the number on its own.
The Equity Index estimates the socio-economic barriers students face, on average, and is used to inform government funding and support. It is not a measure of school quality or academic performance.
Higher values indicate a higher level of estimated socio-economic barriers; lower values indicate fewer. Learn how the Equity Index is calculated →
Student ethnicity
The Ministry publishes this as a raw table — here it's visualised directly against Wellington S D A School's own roll, so the shape of it is clear at a glance.
- European — 11 students (10.3%)
- Asian — 26 students (24.3%)
- Pacific — 69 students (64.5%)
- Māori — 8 students (7.5%)
- MELAA — 7 students (6.5%)
Percentages may sum to more than 100% because students can identify with more than one ethnic group.

Enrolment
Wellington Seventh-day Adventist School is a state integrated school open to students from the Adventist community and the wider community. Enrolments are accepted regardless of religion, ethnic background, or nationality, though the school's integration agreement with the Ministry of Education requires that preference be given first to students with Adventist connections, then to other Christian denominations. Up to 10% of students may come from non-Christian backgrounds.
Preference is determined by the local church pastor, school chaplain, or their designee, based on the family's connection to the beliefs, values, and lifestyle of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The enrolment priority order is as follows:
- Children of employees of the Board of Trustees or local Seventh-day Adventist clergy
- Siblings of current students whose parents are members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
- Children who are, or whose parents are, members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
- Siblings of current students whose parents are members of Christian churches
- Children who are, or whose parents are, members of Christian churches
- Siblings of current students whose parents are not members of Christian churches
- Children who are, or whose parents are, not members of Christian churches
The enrolment process involves four steps: submitting a completed application form with supporting documents to the school office; arranging an interview with the Principal through the school secretary; receiving notification of the outcome from the Board's secretary within one week of the interview; and, if approved, confirming acceptance within two weeks. Application forms are available in two parts — Part 1 (Provisional Approval) and Part 2 (Final Approval) — from the school office.
All enrolled students are expected to participate in the school's programme, including devotional activities and Bible classes.
