About Windsor North School

Windsor North School is a state primary school in the Windsor community, catering for students in Years 1 to 6. It was established in 1877 and operates within an enrolment zone.

The school's vision is to inspire, educate, challenge and support all learners to achieve their full potential. Its three stated values are Respect (Manaakitanga), Excellence (Kairangi), and Responsibility (Whakaute).

The school has 16 classrooms, a library, a hall, and three playgrounds serving its Junior, Middle, and Senior syndicates, along with an outlying playing field. The curriculum places a strong focus on literacy and mathematics. The school has a PTA, a student School Council, and a Board of Trustees.

School donations

The Ministry of Education profile states that: "Donations may be requested".

With an Equity Index of 422, Windsor North School is below the 432 threshold newly required to opt into the donations scheme, though a school already receiving this funding from an earlier year may continue to do so. Outside the scheme, a school can still ask families for donations, but cannot compel or enforce payment.

Check directly with the school for current charges, contributions or other costs. Learn more on the donations scheme or fees and charges at school, both on education.govt.nz.

Equity Index

The Ministry publishes this figure as a bare number — KuraData shows it against the directory-wide average, so you can see where Windsor North School actually sits, not just the number on its own.

Student ethnicity

The Ministry publishes this as a raw table — here it's visualised directly against Windsor North School's own roll, so the shape of it is clear at a glance.

Enrolment

Windsor North School operates under an enrolment scheme that includes a defined enrolment zone. Students living within the zone are entitled to attend and should submit an enrolment form as early as possible. Students outside the zone may apply, but the number of out-of-zone places varies each year depending on in-zone demand and is advertised in the local newspaper.

To begin the process, families submit a pre-enrolment application form online. The school then contacts the applicant by email with further details. Required documents to complete enrolment are:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Immunisation Certificate
  • Confirmation of address (for in-zone applicants, preferably a current electricity account)

Windsor North School follows the Ministry of Education Cohort Entry policy, adopted in 2021. New entrant students start school at the cohort intake point closest to their fifth birthday. There are eight intakes per year — one at the start of each term and one at the midpoint of each term. Pre-enrolment applications for new entrants should be submitted by September of the year before the child turns five. Once accepted, the school posts a confirmation letter that includes dates for classroom visits, typically scheduled for the three Tuesdays before the child's start date.

If out-of-zone applications exceed available places, priority is assigned in the following order:

  • Applicants accepted into a special programme run by the school
  • Siblings of current students
  • Siblings of former students
  • Children of former students
  • Children of a board employee or board member
  • All other applicants

If demand still exceeds places after priority ordering, a ballot is held in October. Parents are notified of the outcome within three school days. The school office can be contacted on (03) 217 8819 to discuss enrolment.
