About Te Wananga O Aotearoa

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is a Māori tertiary education provider founded in 1983 in Te Awamutu, where it began as the Waipā Kōkiri Arts Centre. It has since grown into a nationwide institution, described in its own sources as the second largest tertiary provider in New Zealand, serving thousands of students across the country.

The institution's programmes range from certificates to degrees and are open to any New Zealand citizen or resident. Its approach is grounded in kaupapa Māori and mātauranga Māori, with a stated focus on the success of tauira (students), their whānau, and their communities.
