About Eastern Institute of Technology
The Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) is a polytechnic and institute of technology operating in Hawke's Bay, Tairāwhiti (Gisborne), and Auckland. It offers over 150 qualifications, ranging from certificates and diplomas through to degree and postgraduate level.
EIT traces its origins to the establishment of separate tertiary institutes in Hawke's Bay and Gisborne. The current institution was formed in 2010 through a merger between the former Tairāwhiti Polytechnic and EIT Hawke's Bay, making it the primary provider of higher education on the east coast of the North Island.
Degree and postgraduate programmes are supported by lecturer research activity. EIT participates in the Performance Based Research Fund (PBRF), the Tertiary Education Commission's assessment of academic staff research performance, conducted every six years.
In addition to its main campuses, EIT operates Regional Learning Centres in Hastings, Maraenui, Ruatōria, Waipukurau, and Wairoa, and delivers a number of courses online.
