About Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology
Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology is a vocational tertiary education provider based in the Bay of Plenty and South Waikato regions of New Zealand. It delivers courses across five locations: Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupō, Tokoroa, and Whakatāne.
The institution offers qualifications across a range of levels, from foundation courses and certificates through to degrees and postgraduate study. Study modes include full-time, part-time, and online options.
Toi Ohomai's stated mission places ākonga (learners) and kaimahi (staff) at the centre of its operations, with an explicit commitment to Māori success alongside educational, partnership, and sustainability goals. Its organisational values — known as Toiohomaitanga — were developed through staff consultation and launched in May 2018, and are grouped under four principles: Toitūtanga (pursuit of excellence), Manaakitanga (upholding the mana of others), Whanaungatanga (building relationships), and Kotahitanga (unity of shared purpose).
Studying at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology
Prospective students can explore study options at Toi Ohomai through several pre-enrolment experience formats before committing to a course. After submitting a registration form, the institution responds within five working days with available options for the area of study selected.
The pre-enrolment experience options include:
- Student for a Day Experience — attending Toi Ohomai as if enrolled, to observe the course environment firsthand.
- Information Session — course-specific sessions run multiple times a year, covering details about a chosen course. These are commonly offered for prospective nursing students.
- Kaimahi one-on-one — a meeting with the Academic Tutorial Kaimahi who deliver the course of interest.
- Education Pathways Advisor one-on-one — a session with an Education Pathways Advisor, which can include a campus tour, for those uncertain about which course or pathway to pursue.
Not all courses can offer a full-day experience, and what is available varies depending on capacity. Courses are delivered across multiple campuses, with students attending the campus relevant to their enrolment.
