About Oceania Career Academy
Oceania Career Academy (OCA) is a vocational training provider established in 2015, focused on serving Pasifika students in New Zealand. It received NZQA accreditation in its founding year and holds a Category 1 provider rating — the highest rating awarded through NZQA's External Evaluation and Review process.
OCA is a subsidiary of The Fono, described as New Zealand's largest Pasifika NGO, and draws on support from Pasifika Futures, New Zealand's Whānau Ora commissioning agency for Pasifika families. This organisational structure underpins OCA's student support model, which it calls the Whānau Ora approach — providing wraparound support that can include mental health services, medical and dental assistance, family violence services, and addiction counselling, delivered through partner organisations.
OCA offers qualifications in construction and, from 2023, in health and wellbeing. Its campus is located on Ascot Rd and can accommodate up to 208 people. Programmes are designed to lead graduates into apprenticeships, entry-level trade roles, or further study.
OCA employs both tutors and navigators — staff whose role is pastoral and logistical support rather than instruction — as a distinct feature of its student support structure.
