It was established by St Mark's Parish in 1917, following an initiative by the Reverend Coffey, Vicar of St Mark's Church, and opened on 11 September 1917 with 37 pupils under its first headmistress, Miss Annie Holm.

Curriculum
St Mark's Church School is authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), which covers students from Preschool through to Year 8 (ages 3–12).
